“for a long time I made a whole lot of oneminuts. I was travelling a great deal, and so I thought about and saw the world around me in oneminute fragments. I don’t create or manipulate images; I look, in reality itself, for images that tell something. Carwashing, for instance, is a registration of a car being washed in Thailand. Seven people seven , were there cleaning a car, and then there was another man standing there to make sure it was all being done properly. In a single minute you see everything that has to do with the poverty in that country, the need for work, the way people relate to each other. in a short film you see sometimes ore. The marriage is a registration of a group of people getting together for a wending photograph. it was actually twenty seconds that I stretched out to sixty. because of this, you see in great detail how everyone finds his place, does his best to look good for posterity, and how the old, ill father hides his cane. Such telling moments would be lost through the course of a longer story. November 2003 Sacha Bronwasser Nominated for THEONE MINUTEAWARD 2001 “Together” 2003 “The marriage” |
